The Forests and Livelihoods: Assessment, Research, and Engagement (FLARE) Network was established in 2015 to advance research and action on forest livelihoods and support a just and sustainable future for both people and forests worldwide. Functioning as a global community of practice, FLARE translates high-quality, cross-disciplinary research into evidence that supports forest-reliant communities and informs policy processes. The network has built a thriving global community of approximately 1,150 researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from 65 countries. Over its first decade, the network directly supported 200 individuals and hosted 10 Annual Meetings where more than 1,000 scientific papers were presented. The research conducted by a core group of FLARE researchers includes over 200 academic papers and policy briefs, which have been widely cited in academic publications and policy documents, with the research articles garnering over 7,000 citations and frequently influencing intergovernmental organizations.
